Rebekah Higgs’ grandmother didn’t just inspire her fearless electro-dance alter ego, Ruby Jean, she’s also the spirit behind Higgs’ Jewelry by Twiggs.

“I started making them at Christmas time for friends and family out of scraps of lace around the house and my grandmother’s broken jewellery left to me,” says Higgs, who always shows up on our Best of Music poll’s Best Dressed list. “I basically got addicted to making jewellery by hanging out with my mom, and it just went on from there.” Each necklace and pair of earrings is unique, a delicate mix of vintage lace with pearls, crystals and antique gold. Best of all, there are only 18 pieces so you’ll never look like a mall dork when you’re wearing one. Available at Biscuit General Store ($22-$39, 1661 Argyle Street, 425-5436) or directly at etsy.com/shop/jewelrybytwiggs.
